Welcome to Dyke Dive, a limited series podcast that delves deep into the role lesbian bars have played in shaping queer community. More than just social spaces, these bars have been lifelines—places of connection, belonging, and resilience. Hosted by Dr. Marie Cartier, author of Baby, You Are My Religion, Dyke Dive brings together voices from across generations—bartenders, patrons, archivists, and creators of virtual spaces—to reflect on how these bars have served as vital touchstones in LGBTQ+ history and continue to inspire new forms of community today.

Season One of Dyke Dive dives deep into stories of the people who lived and breathed lesbian bar culture. From bartenders and patrons to archivists preserving its legacy and innovators creating virtual worlds, these episodes weave together personal narratives and community reflections.

In collaboration with CIRCA 2024 for Queer History Month, we are re-releasing Season One throughout October, including previously unpublished episodes. The series will culminate in a special live taping of the final episode on October 11th, coinciding with National Coming Out Day.

Dyke Dive is about more than untold stories; it’s about understanding the ways lesbian bars shaped and continue to shape queer lives. Whether these bars still stand, have been reimagined in virtual spaces, or live on in memories, the podcast reminds us of the vital role they played—and still play—in creating and sustaining LGBTQ+ communities.
